Last year's game in Ruston started with a pregame fight that spearheaded Louisiana Tech's 28-21 upset win over then 17th ranked Fresno State. Everyone in La Tech country has been waiting for the Fresno challenge this year.
As if Fresno State did not have enough to worry about after Saturday's loss at Nevada. The Bayou Bulldogs are playing for a bowl berth, and like everyone else in the WAC, beating Fresno State is icing on the cake. A blowout loss at the hands of Fresno State will all but keep La Tech home for the Holidays. However, a win over the 22nd ranked Bulldogs makes La Tech look that more enticing to bowls reps.
Fresno State pounded La Tech last year with the run; as the passing game struggled, only totaling 104 yards. Ryan Moats was the huge factor in beating Fresno State last year. Moats ran for over 200 yards and all four of La Tech's touchdowns. Moats is with Eagles, but La Tech is having an even better year without him. That may have more to do with La Tech's softer non-conference slate this year compared to last year's Miami, Tennessee and Auburn.
