I received an email reply from CSTV college football analyst Brain Curtis concerning the USC game and his prediction. The topic turned to Fresno State's schedule and I mention that Texas Tech backed out of a game and Auburn refused to play the Bulldogs at home for a one and done. He fired back with this:
I agree with the Top 12-15. In fact, I vote in the Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll and this week, there sits FS. They did play well against USC but I wouldn't go as far to say it was a great game by USC. Leinart has had much better games, as have his receivers. Give FS credit for pushing USC. As to the schedule, some teams shy away from playing Fresno State because of the reputation of having a program which does not always follow the rules and brings in renegade kids. I don't agree but more than one AD has told me this. Good luck in a bowl game. -BC

another baseless no source slam of Fresno ... BS ... name some names if these ADs really say that ...
renegade my ass ... these fat cat coaches dont want to upset the gravy train and their multi-million dollar deals and play anybody that matters ... look at UTexas they dropped Utah for La-Lafayette
I wonder if he was just talking out of his ass. What ADs would say this? And if they did why would Curtis repeat it. Pat Hill runs a very clean program, but I can not say the same about the Fresno State "renegade" basketball program.....
Thank you mens basketball for all of the "glory" that you have brought and continue to bring to Fresno State.
Here are the facts:
No footbal player has been under NCAA investigation uring Pat Hill's reign as coach
Fresno State's football team has a higher Academic Progress Rate (as released by the NCAA www2.ncaa.org/academics_and_athletes/education_and_research/academic_reform/school_apr_data.html) than 7 of the top 10 teams on the BCS rankings as released today.
Now the not so facts:
Fresno State has been called the little red giant killer by the LA times (Sat 11/19/2005). Teams back out and refuse to play because (1) Fresno State may not generate the ticket sales they are looking for (although the USC game was packed) and (2) loosing to Fresno State does not do good things for BCS rankings.
I agree with the anonymous listing: name some AD's who are making these "statements." Otherwise, this is starting to sound like slander.
