The players were optimistic at the beginning of the season, but after an 0-5 start, New Mexico State has been beaten literally and physically. It does not get any better this week with Fresno State coming to town.

Coach Hal Mumme will be scratching his head all night long trying to figure out how to stop the Bulldogs. Especially, with the return of Garrett McIntyre and Cole Popovich from injuries. Fresno State will be at its full compliment of starters for the first time since Weber State.

The Aggies will be forced to pick their poison. Load up the front with eight in the box to stop the run, but get beat by Paul Pinegar and Fresno State's emerging receiving corps. On the other hand, NMSU might want to just stick with their base 3-4, but get dominated at the line of scrimmage by a punishing ground attack.

Either way it will be a long night for the Aggies Saturday. Fresno State looks to have put the pieces together this year, and October should not be the dreaded month Bulldog fans are accustomed to.
